This course is being run as part of the Orienteering World Cup 2005 Development Programme, which aims, amongst other things to encourage the mapping of school grounds and small local areas which can be used with schools, scouts, guides and other youth groups for teaching, coaching and small events.
Places are limited so please book early to avoid disappointment. If there is sufficient demand, the course will run again in November.

COURSE LEADER
Roger Lott - Thames Valley Orienteering Club (TVOC)
Roger is a professional land surveyor and has over 35 years of orienteering experience. He has been surveying and drawing orienteering maps on an amateur basis since 1968.
WHO IS IT FOR?
The course is for orienteers who want to map small areas such as school grounds or local parks. Some knowledge of computer-aided cartography (OCAD) is preferable but not essential. Familiarity with orienteering maps and Windows-based PCs is however essential.
AIM
The course will equip you with the basics you need to know in order to undertake the survey and cartography of small areas which can be used for development purposes, such as school grounds and local parks. It is not a general mapping course and it is not a detailed OCAD course.
OUTLINE PROGRAMME
The course will be mainly practical exercises, both outdoors and indoors. It will cover:
· establishing a base-map
· mapping standards
· equipment needed
· the basics of surveying
· the basics of OCAD
· map reproduction
· sources of funding for school grounds and local parks maps

COST
£10.00 including all documentation and handouts. Tea/coffee/juice provided but please bring your own lunch. NB Your orienteering club may be able to pay your course fee for you.
