When did you start orienteering?

A long time ago, all my life, but maybe 9 or 10 by myself.

How much do you train each week?

10-14 hours.

How do you split the training between speed training and technique?

In 3rds: fast technique work, just running intervals, and orienteering intervals.

Is there one tip that has particularly helped to improve your performance?

Make things easy; stop and look.

What indulgences (if any) did you have to give up?

Beer (but not fully).

What do you do to relax?

Sleep, watch TV, read.

What areas do you like orienteering in most?

Lake District areas and Danish.

Have you won any races?

Yes, a Yellow course aged 11.

How do you run so fast through terrain without falling over or twisting an ankle?

Feel the forest, may the forest be with you. Hard 2 say, it just happens. And the more you do, the faster you get.

Was there any other sport you enjoyed when you were at school and had to give up to concentrate on orienteering?

Rugby.

Did you do cross country when you were at school and, if so, were you any good at it?"

Yes, I was quite good; ran the English Schools a few times; best result was 33rd.
